The BBQ Rig is Here!

Todd and I drove to Little Rock yesturday (the 8th) and picked the Rig up and brought it back to Memphis. We stood around and admired it late in to the evening after running it through the car wash to fresh'n her up a little.

We were arguing and trying to figure out the water valve and whether we were going to add a water chamber for a "moist" smoker and where we were going to put the refrigerater.

Then today came around and Todd noticed a name plate on the smoker (surprising what a little sun light can do). Turns out it is a JRenterprises wet system smoker (one of a kind) and we found out a lot more on how it was designed to be used. There is already a water pit, the air valve we were trying to figure out is for a propane tank to ignite the logs or charcoal in the firebox.

The company said they will mail us an instruction pack on how they do their smoking and grilling for competitions. JR's team in 1986 was the first barbeque team to be awarded for the International Barbeque Team of the Year on the prestigious Memphis in May barbeque circuit.

Back to the one of a kind part. Our rig was made with a "cake oven" which we originally thought was a "hot box" but realized it would get too hot from direct heat for a true hot box. We suggested baking biscuits in it (it's small), but come to find out the builder of the unit wanted and used it for cakes and potato's.

Mike Reed is going to hook us up with a shop where we can get the back sand blasted and repainted. There are hints of slight corrosion and also the old teams name on the back. We found one negative with a small corrosion hole at the end of the fire box, but it will be an easy fix and we will "beef" up the plating to eliminate that from happening again.

All in all , it is a wonderful rig and we will have no regrets with it. We will be having a smoke out here soon for all members and "pledged" members so everyone can see the rig and we can have a meet & greet.
